Okay, weird thing that popped into my head. So, in a lot of bird species the males have very showy feathers while the females don’t. It got me thinking about maybe… if people that have wings… if they followed a similar pattern. Like imagine a fantasy version of our world where some people have wings, and the people born male have colorful wings or wings that are slightly sparkly at the tips of the feathers or something.
A trans girl is told her whole life wings are a gift but they label her a “guy” from a hundred feet away. The night before she comes out to her parents she and her boyfriend buy three large bottles of brown dye and they are up until three in the morning figuring it out. And when she looks in the mirror, the green and red popping colors are gone, and she has never felt more beautiful in her life.
Cis guys with wings having a tendency to embrace their flamboyant side because if people are still gonna insist that bright colors are too flashy for men and brightness is a part of you then you might as well go all out. Become what they think you are tenfold.
Cis girls taking every conceivable direction with their plain feathers. Some wear clothes to match, some wear as bright colors as possible to make up for it. Masculine women getting tints put on their feathers.
Trans winged people raising hell about the lack of dye specifically made for feathers, because sometimes passing is a safety issue and if people can dye their hair for fun then why can’t they dye their feathers for a safety reason?
People with colorful feathers sometimes dying their hair to match
Black feathers rare and surprisingly gender neutral. Beautiful and hard to miss.
Positivity posts on Tumblr and places like that for girls with grey feathers or people that still have a little baby fluff left.
Someone with really really bright blue and yellow feathers not liking all of the attention it gets them because they have social anxiety.
Someone with the bubbliest personality ever with plain brown feathers that dyes their hair popping colors to make up for the plainness of their most noticeable feature.
Men with wings giving a feather to their romantic partner before they go on an extended trip without them or mailing them one if they’re long distance or their partner is in the military kind of like how women used to send locks of hair sometimes.
A trans boy with really plain tan wings nervously handing a feather to his girlfriend before he goes off to study abroad for a year and she kisses him and assures him that it’s beautiful and clips it in her hair as is customary, not caring that it blends in with her hair color.
Creeps without wings trying to touch people’s wings without permission or pluck out feathers. Men with wings always seem to understand consent better than men without wings, somehow. They say why, but nobody seems to listen. When something like the #metoo movement happens they’re one of the more vocal groups, and very loud about how it happens to women too. Just because their wings aren’t as noticeable doesn’t mean creeps aren’t touching them. If anything it’s worse for the women.
Boys getting so excited when they start to see what color their wings will be near the start of puberty in the same way other boys get excited about their first chest hair or their voice getting deeper.
Girls with no winged women in their families watching YouTube tutorials on how to take care of your feathers once you start growing your adult ones.
Groups of preteens learning how to fly together. A beautiful mix of rainbow like colors and neutral tones. Sometimes their earthbound peers will notice it going on and cheer for them.
